Master Details is back with their latest release, a 1/32 U.S. Navy/Marine Aviator in pre World War Two gear. This is a subject near and dear to my heart and I was pleased to see that their tradition of value and quality continues with this release.  Flawlessly cast in a light cream color resin, the figure depicts a seated pilot figure suitable for placement in any WWII U.S. Navy or Marine aircraft in pre-war markings.  The figure is sculpted in a pre-war 37S3 “potato sack” flight suit with the cloth type flight helmet common during that period.  The creases and folds are masterfully done.  A separate microphone is also provided.

The sculpting and proportions of the figure are top notch and, in keeping with most Master Details releases, there are numerous options including no less that 6 different heads depicting a variety of goggle and ear phone options. In addition, two sets of arms and separate legs are supplied to provide for a variety of different pose options.  Casting blocks are minimal and limited to the bottom of the torso and heads.  Clean-up should be a breeze.

The facial sculpting is extremely realistic and even better than depicted in the package artwork. One really nice touch is that the goggles are sculpted hollow with instructions provided on how to fill the cavities with clear epoxy to simulate the lenses.  The most astonishing feature is that the eyes are sculpted in the goggles, allowing for an incredibly realistic depiction of a pilot with his goggles on.  Instructions are included for performing this task.

According to the directions, the figure is sculpted to drop fit into any of the 1/32 pre-war Navy aircraft kits on the market. This figure will provide a wonderful enhancement to your F4B, BF2C, F3F, F4F, F2A, and/or SBD-1/2 and is a superb value for the money.  If you are looking to dress up a 1/32 “yellow-wing project, “ this is a great option.
Highly recommended.
